2019 Summer Intensive Course Announcement: “Organic Stereochemistry” by Prof. Masahiro Muraoka, Osaka Institute of Technology (2019/7/30~8/1, for undergraduate)
Welcome to join Prof. Masahiro Muraoka’s Summer Intensive Course “Organic Stereochemistry” held on July 30th~August 1st, 2019. This course will be given in English, have one credit and be free of charge. The objective of the course is for students to develop an understanding and appreciation of three-dimensional structure of various organic molecules as well as discussion of basic reaction mechanism by a three-dimensional point of view.
The Course Outline:
1. Conformations of alkanes and cycloalkanes
2. Optical activity; enantiomers, diastereomers, and meso compounds
3. Sequence rules for specifying configuration
4. Racemic mixtures, resolution of enantiomers, and asymmetric synthesis
5. Cis-trans (E, Z) isomerism and stereochemistry of addition reaction to alkenes
6. Recent topics about chiral technology
The Course Hours:
7/30(二) 9:10~12:10、13:20~16:20。(Periods 2,3,4,6,7,8)
7/31(三) 9:10~12:10、13:20~16:20。(Periods 2,3,4,6,7,8)
8/01(四) 9:10~12:10、13:20~16:20。(Periods 2,3,4,6,7,8)
Room: TR-412-2
Prof. Masahiro Muraoka has taught this summer course “Organic Stereochemistry” for three times and always teaches class with PowerPoint files explanation and molecular models operation. The content will focus the 3D molecular structures and introduction of newly stereo-molecules’ application. Therefore, don’t worry about organic reactions and mechanisms. The feedbacks of the students in previous classes were always very great. Moreover, he has been the leading teacher of the PBL activity students of Osaka Institute of Technology (OIT) several times for joining the NTUST PBL activities and the PBL activities in Widya Mandala Catholic University, so maybe you have known him already. If you are interested in Organic molecular structures or in knowing Prof. Muraoka, welcome you to join this course.
For application: Before 2019/07/26 please email to Prof. Jinn-Hsuan Ho (jhho@mail.ntust.edu.tw) with the message of “join the summer intensive course Organic Chemistry” or something similar. If you have any questions, please contact me.
