New Qualify Exam Regulations.

To all graduate students in Ch E Department:

Happy New Year! There’s good news for 2010!

The requirements for passing the qualify exam have been revised in the last faculty meeting. The new regulations concerning the qualify exam are applicable for incoming new PhD students as well as all PhD students currently enrolled in the PhD program of the Department of Chemical Engineering.

1. No more written exam will be given starting the Spring semester of 2010.

2. The passing of qualify exam is replaced by the requirement that PhD student must take at least 2 core courses in the first academic year, and with performance ranking in the upper 60%.

3. Any PhD student who fails to meet the above stated requirement, then before the end of the first academic year, his/her thesis advisor may organize a committee to decide if the student is qualified to continue his/her PhD program.

In addition, the requirement that PhD student has to take graduate seminar course for 6 semesters has been modified to 4 semesters.
